Nature photography combines two essential aspects of living in my mind- the beauty of the world beyond humanity (although sometimes including humanity) and artistic expression. We are blessed to roam an earth infused with gorgeous plants, animals, landscapes, monoliths, and water forms that are forever evolving with the light and transformation of passing time. As the years of my life pass, I take notice of an increasing number of these daily miracles, from drops on the plants in my neighborhood to overwhelming landscapes on fortunate to have been taken backpacking trips. Each of these moments act as a Mirada Iluminada…
An obsession (a word not to be taken lightly) has overtaken me and I find myself constantly striving to shoot and capture pieces of these beautiful glances of the world that I see to share with others. As humans, we often become indifferent or fragmented from all the wonder around us and if these photos are able to remind others of what exists beyond the commute, the day at work, and the daily pressures we all undertake, then I will be thrilled. If but one person is inspired to take an extra moment to watch a hummingbird zip along or take a walk on the beach, I will feel honored. And if these gentle reminders of what is at stake, what might be lost if we do not make changes in our ways of living, act as catalysts to a greener, more eco-respecting way of life for any one individual, then I will celebrate.
